I spent almost my entire legal career in public service.
For many years, I was an administrative law judge in various agencies.
I began my legal career working for the now defunct, Federal Interstate Commerce Commission. Truthfully, when I began my career in law, I had no idea what an attorney actually did. After many years, I know much more, but I also know that finding an attorney with true integrity is a near impossibility. I say that with a heavy heart.
Of course, I use a very high standard. That standard is that I have never met another attorney like me and I have not yet met an attorney who has the guts or the integrity to take on the "powers that be". In short, self-interest is the largest motivator in law. Over the course of many years, I have written hundreds of letters and have received at best a handful of responses.
I have worked for the largest law firms and know that justice is simply not on the agenda. What is on the agenda is self-preservation!
Over the years, I worked for other agencies, such as in the Environment, Welfare, Transit. I worked as an arbitrator in three NYC Boroughs, I served on a Health arbitration tribunal, pro bono panel and Family Court. None of this (and I underline that), made any difference when the System is gunning for you, as you sit in the pond in their gunsight.
And if you think that there is someone to call, some higher power to appeal to, someone, anyone, you are wrong, dead wrong. You are a marked man and finished, tossed away like yesterday's garbage. Nice, eh? That's the System that we have. I call it Brooklyn, USSR. Don't kid yourself. Don't be smug. It could happen to YOU!
